Dear Parents/Carers
We are planning two bike rides in the half term holiday for Kool Kids Bike Club:
- Wednesday 26th October the trip is to the new Early Years Partnership Forest School site at Clifton Backies.
- We will be asking the children to design posters to discourage dog walkers letting their dogs foul the site.
- There will be a prize for the best designs.
- A maximum of 6 children will be able to bring their bikes
- to cycle from the junior school Rawcliffe Drive along Water Lane to the Backies with Sally Mclean
- who is qualified to teach Bikeability and as a Ride Manager for bike rides. Cost £20.
- On Friday 28th October we will be cycling to the Bike Rescue Project under Lendal Bridge and asking Hugh Bailey
- to join us for a photo shoot.
The route we will be cycling starts from the junior school site along the streets of Rawcliffe
over Shipton Road (on foot) to the allotments where we will join Cycle Route 65 which
goes along the side of the river past the Museum Gardens to Lendal Bridge. Please bring
a packed lunch (this will be eaten back at Kool Kids club on Rawcliffe Drive). There will
be three adults taking a maximum of 10 children. The children must be competent,
confidant, cyclists, capable of cycling on the road in a responsible manner. Cost £10
Two of the adults on ride 2 are trained to teach Bikeability to level 3.
Your child’s bike and your child’s cycling ability will be assessed before we set off on the rides.
All children who want to take part in the rides need to be able to ride their bikes to level 2 standard of Bikeability. Their bikes need to be roadworthy.
The children need to be able to put the ball of their left foot down on the road with their right foot on the pedal
in the two o’clock position, the child’s bottom should be on the bike seat.
The bike will be leaning over to their left with both hands holding the handle bars
and applying the brakes at the same time.
This is the pedal ready position for starting stopping and setting off from any road junction.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On both days your child must be dropped off by 8.30 am so that we can check their bike
and confirm with you that they will be able to access the rides.
They will also need a packed lunch on both days in s back pack.
